LENGTH OF COURSE
• BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business is a full-time two year course equivalent to 2 GCE A Levels.
• BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Business is a full-time one year course equivalent to 1 GCE A Level.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
For a BTEC Level 3 course you will need 4 GCSEs A*-C including English Language or a Level 2 BTEC qualification plus GCSE English Language at grade C and GCSE Maths at grade D.
COURSE AIMS
• To gain a broad understanding of business and to be able to study selected areas in more depth
• To develop skills, knowledge and understanding in business
• To have an opportunity to apply learning in a practical and realistic way
• To develop key skills which are highly valued by employers and universities
HOW WILL I STUDY?
All aspects of this course are internally assessed, designed to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required in business using assignments and project work, case studies, workplace assessment, role play and oral presentation.
CONTENT
Each year the student will study for six units In year 1 There are Four mandatory units and Two optional units:
• Unit 1 – The business Environment
• Unit 2 – Business Resources
• Unit 3 – Introduction to Marketing
• Unit 4 – Business Communication
• Unit 5 – Business Accounting
• Unit 10 – Market Research in Business
In year 2 Examples subject areas could include units such as:
• Unit 8 – Accounting Systems
• Unit 9 – Creative Product Promotion
• Unit 13 – Recruitment and selection in Business
• Unit 15 - Development Planning for a Career in Business
• Unit 19 – Developing Team Development
• Unit 36 – Starting a small Business
ASSESSMENT
Learners need to provide evidence to meet the grading criteria shown in the unit specification.
• To pass a unit, every pass criterion needs to be achieved.
• To gain a merit, all the pass and merit criteria need to be achieved.
• To gain a distinction, all the pass, merit and distinction criteria need to be achieved. You will be encouraged to compile a portfolio of evidence to meet the grading criteria for each unit. It is important that this begins early on in the course so that you can develop your portfolio-building skills and manage and organise your evidence.
WHERE NEXT?
A BTEC in Business qualification will give access to a wide range of careers and further education opportunities. You may decide to move on to the HNC/D or a degree course. Alternatively you may choose work based training and NVQ courses. BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Business are recognised and respected by employers, professional institutions and higher education establishments alike. Learners who gain BTEC Level 3 National qualifications will earn UCAS points, learners completing BTEC National qualifications can apply for university places through UCAS
