ESOL

You will get some nationally recognised qualifications:

• Cambridge ESOL (English) E1, E2, E3 or L1
• OCR Entry Level Functional Skills  Maths E1, E2 or E3

INTRODUCTION

We offer ESOL courses for young people whose first language is not English. You can learn to speak and write English in small friendly classes.  We will help you to improve your English language skills to progress onto other courses cope with living in an English speaking country.

You can also learn other skills in ESOL:

• Art and Design
• Travel and Tourism
• Horticulture
• Sport and Active Leisure

LENGTH OF COURSE

ESOL is a full-time course.  You will study for 20 hours a week and the course lasts for one year. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

You do not need any qualifications but you must want to work hard.  We will assess your English and you will join the course at the right level.

HOW WILL I STUDY?
 
It is a very practical course.   You will work with your teachers in small groups, in pairs and on your own.  You will also visit places of interest in and around Leicester.

We have many computers and you will use these in class to complete projects and practise your English.

You will have the opportunity to do one week’s work experience in June and this will help you when you apply for a job.

We will give you homework to do which will support your learning.

You will do exams in December and May.  You will also do coursework throughout the year.

WHERE NEXT?

At the end of the course you can move to a higher level of ESOL or another course at Gateway College.  You could also go onto training or employment.
