INTRODUCTION
This is a new GCSE which is being offered by the college for the second year running, It is equivalent to a traditional GCSE in Maths but is composed of different units. The aim of this course is to allow students to gain a GCSE in a maths subject whilst teaching skills that will be used in the real world.
CONTENT
The qualification is made up from three modules, each a qualification in its own right. Module one is Functional Skills at Level 2, this covers many aspects in maths and it application to the world. Module 2 is Data Handling, this statistics module helps you to understand and display figures, and to look at biased data. Module 3 is personal finance, here we look at wages and deductions, the cost of borrowing and where we spend our money, preparing our students for real life financial decision making.
DO I HAVE TO DO MATHS?
All students who have not yet achieved a grade C at GCSE in Maths will be placed on an appropriate course to develop their skills in these areas, make them more employable and more able to access higher education.
I STRUGGLE IN MATHS, WHAT HELP IS AVAILABLE?
All students will have four hours of timetabled lessons each week. In addition we run a workshop every day in the lunch break where students can pop in and have additional help, either to practice skills learnt in class or with homework.
I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
Please do feel free to ask any of our maths staff any questions you still have, or contact one of our course coordinators.
