ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

INTRODUCTION

If your first language is not English then this course will help you to improve your English language skills to cope with life in Leicester and to open up other possibilities.

 

LENGTH OF COURSE

You will attend college for 20 hours each week. The course runs for 36 weeks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

There are no entry requirements. You will have an interview and we will assess your needs. Then we will put you into an ESOL group at the appropriate level.

 

HOW WILL I STUDY?

The course involves working with the teacher as part of a group and working alone, in pairs or small groups. We will use computers, audio and video material as well as material from your other courses.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

As well as working on the four skills of speaking, listening and reading, writing, attention will be given to improving your grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and how to understand different types of text.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL I WORK TOWARDS?

You will work towards national qualifications at an appropriate level in English, Maths and Computing. A higher level of ESOL, a level 1 or level 2 course, training or employment.
