Wyggeston & QE pairing of Prakash Wagela and Kishan Patel have won the 4 Colleges Badminton Tournament held at Gateway College. In an evenly matched final they overcame a strong challenge from Gateway’s Shivang Devgi and Karan Darji.
The tournament was the culmination of a coaching project covering Leicester, Gateway and WQE Colleges funded by Sportivate. Also invited were Judgemeadow College who are currently working towards Badminton England’s Premier status.
In the quarter finals three pairs secured a fairly comfortable passage into the next round, but WQE’s Neil Thakrar and Shailen Mistry found their younger opponents, Judgemeadow’s Ravi Mistry and Mark Taylor, a stern test. After a close contest Thakrar and Mistry ran out 15-12 winners. In the semi finals Wagela and Patel beat Shikha Tandel and Josh Snelders also from WQE 15-5, whilst Devgi and Darji beat Thakrar and Mistry 15-6. Spurred on by good support from the spectators, the finalists produced some excellent attacking badminton, with the lead changing hands many times. Wagela and Patel though finished the stronger, winning the contest 21-15.
